People Behind the Space: Panama
Matt Stark, Founder of Panama
Panama isn’t just a coworking space—it’s a launchpad for success. Created by Matt and Jaimee Stark and the team at Stark Property, Panama blends stunning design with a thriving community, offering an environment where businesses don’t just work but grow.
From thoughtfully curated spaces to a vibrant culture of collaboration, discover how Panama is shaping the future of flexible working in Hamilton.
What inspired you to create Panama Coworking, and how does it fit into the broader vision of Stark Property?
We saw a gap in the market for flexible, high-quality office space that supports the growth of small businesses. Panama started as a solution to this need and has since become a launchpad for many tenants who go on to scale into larger Stark Property buildings. Our vision has always been to create spaces that foster success, and Panama is an integral part of that journey.

Panama has transformed the coworking experience in Hamilton—what sets it apart from other shared workspaces?
The people. We’ve built a community that thrives on connection and collaboration, and that starts with our team. Armani, in particular, has been instrumental in ensuring every detail is considered, creating an environment where businesses can flourish. Plus, great design is at the heart of everything we do—our spaces are crafted to be both functional and inspiring.

Panama isn’t just about office space; it’s about building a community. How do you foster collaboration and connection among your members?
We create opportunities for people to connect organically. From our curated events to the natural interactions that happen at Cream, the café on our ground floor, we’ve built a space where collaboration happens naturally. Whether it’s through networking events, shared workspaces, or casual conversations over coffee, our goal is to bring people together.

We’re always listening. The way people work is constantly changing, and we’re committed to evolving alongside them. By staying attuned to our members’ needs, we can continue to provide spaces that support their growth, whether that means new locations, enhanced amenities, or more flexible lease options.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of creating and running Panama, and how has it shaped your journey as entrepreneurs?
Seeing businesses grow. There’s nothing more satisfying than watching a company start as a one-person operation at Panama and scale into a thriving business with a full team. It reinforces why we do what we do.

What kind of businesses and individuals thrive at Panama? Are there any standout success stories from your members?
Panama attracts a diverse range of businesses, from tech startups to creative agencies. One standout story is a company that started with just one person and has now grown to a team of 30. Seeing that kind of success is what makes Panama so special.
What role does sustainability and supporting local suppliers play in Panama’s design and day-to-day operations?
Sustainability is always a priority for us. We make a conscious effort to work with local suppliers and implement sustainable practices wherever possible. From repurposing materials in our fit-outs to minimizing waste, we’re always looking for ways to operate more responsibly.

If you could describe the ideal Panama experience in just three words, what would they be and why?
Energy. Design. Fun. Energy because our spaces are full of life and creativity. Design because every detail is intentionally crafted to inspire. And fun because work should be enjoyable, and we’ve built a community that makes it just that.
