Tell us a bit about yourself and what inspired you to open BRAD'S?
First and foremost, I’m an installation artist and space has always been my first love and favorite canvas. Years ago, I was contracted as a Creative Director, in the development of an Event space. It was here that my obsession with space that had the capacity to host people, for whatever they needed deepened. Many moons on, on the search for a studio space I feel across the old Blue Stone Room, and while I could go on, the truth is, in essence that was the birth of BRAD’S.

What do you enjoy most about BRAD'S, and how does it differ from other event spaces?
It’s power to host anyone, from anywhere, for anything. As far as differing from other event spaces, BRAD’S is New Zealand's oldest remaining commercial building, built in 1861 - space like this is a rarity here, a hidden gem. While, of course I am biased, in my opinion it’s a powerful point of difference!

Can you describe the types of events and collaborations that take place at BRAD'S?
Really, as it’s a little of everything. A lot of celebration of love, celebration of people, and well, just many people, weaving their magic into the heritage and legacy of this space.

What do you love most about working in a creative and multidisciplinary environment?
-
The footprint of each and every day is entirely different for me, and this I love.
-
If you could invite any three people to host an event at BRAD'S, who would they be and why?
- Brad Pitt, as our namesake - he’s an obvious choice. And I’d love to be transported back to the time in the late 1960's, early 70’s when Elton John and The Rolling Stones spent hours, indulging in music and liquor here within the walls of BRAD’S. Because, well, does it get any better?

Are there any exciting projects or collaborations you can share with us?
- Many, and most, I can’t share! But, the most exciting is my recent acquisition of OKAHU, an Event Venue situated on the water in Okahu Bay, an equally iconic spot. Sharing the same value and heart of BRAD’S, here we welcome all.

How has your artistic background influenced the design and atmosphere of BRAD'S?
- In respect to design I’m a maximalist at heart, and equally have a firm stance that less is more. The canvas here, allows one to sink into the beauty of the space as is or go all out. The atmosphere, well at its core people always say the space feels so good, and it does. But again, the atmosphere amplifies with the energy of people, and really that’s where the beauty lies.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of running BRAD'S, and how has it shaped your journey as an artist?
- The people and the expression of joy I see from those that cross our paths and take BRAD’S as their space, even if just for a moment.
