Jace and Friends from JaceSpace

  1. Tell us a bit about yourself and what inspired you to create JaceSpace as such a versatile, multidisciplinary venue.

My friends inspired me. I have so many multi-talented, amazing humans in my life who come from all walks of life, and they all have a story. Bizarre as it sounds, I was actually going to purchase a currently operating fish smokery and move it into the space, which, at this point, I cannot even imagine if that had happened. I would be bored as! I used to have a taco and tequila bar in London before I moved here. It was so much fun. Customers had fun. I had fun. It was not the same as anything anywhere else. Anyway, I want to enable people to have experiences that are different—days, nights, conversations, photos, and moments that people will not forget.

  1. What do you enjoy most about running JaceSpace, and how does it stand out from other spaces in the city?

I learn something every single day. Stepping back and seeing what people do with the space... What a diverse world of incredibly talented humans. Watching people do things I would have never thought of. Also, the ability to provide the space for my friends and others to showcase all of their talents is huge. It’s different. Your vibe attracts your tribe. It’s not for everyone, and that’s what I want. It’s not pretentious (not saying anyone else’s space is), it’s not ‘pristine and perfect’—and by ‘not pristine,’ I don’t mean it lacks quality or luxury because it certainly has that. Space has soul and it has history. And it’s cool. OH, and you can STAY. I turned the upstairs into a boutique hotel vibe with accommodation for 8 (4 rooms), Ecosa mattresses, the most luxurious pillows, 100% linen sheets, and the biggest, fluffiest, softest, and most inviting duvets I could find. Oh, and for guests staying at the OG (Symonds Street) or 25 Gibraltar (Parnell JaceStays), you can hire my blacked-out, JACESPACE-branded Sport Range Rover to cruise around.

What was your vision behind the design and layout of JaceSpace, and how does it accommodate such a wide range of experiences?

My ‘vision’ wasn’t an exact plan. I wanted the main space to be visually appealing but understated, so people could transform it to fit their vision. But the bathrooms? I did what I wanted—Versace plate wallpaper, and Andy Warhol’s Pink Cow everywhere in the vanity area.
The space is huge, with high ceilings and multiple rooms. I also offer onsite sustainable hire, refurbishing gently used items, which enables prices that are attainable without compromising style—Versace place settings, 220 sets of Italian cutlery, art, glassware, bespoke modular sofas, and more. community is always at the heart of the workspace.

With JaceSpace being available for everything from Christmas parties to art exhibitions to JaceStays, what excites you most about offering such a diverse array of events?

The most exciting part is seeing people look around, creating their vision in their heads, and then bringing it to life. I also love handing over the keys for a day, week, or more of filming, JaceStays, or other multi-day hires, and then going home to focus on how I can add to or improve experiences while shaping and maintaining my brand's integrity.

On your website, jacespace.co.nz, there are two pricing structures. Can you tell us about these and any other fees/costs at JaceSpace?

Great question! I don’t believe in 'POA'—it creates unnecessary back-and-forth and confusion. By stating my prices upfront, it saves everyone time and avoids the issue of people comparing rates and feeling shortchanged. I prefer transparency.
I offer two pricing structures to support the creative industry in New Zealand. The only additional costs come if something is damaged, excessively dirty, or broken. In that case, the client covers the replacement cost and keeps the replaced item with the receipt.
I never add margins to vendor services. Clients deal directly with the vendors—whether it’s catering, staffing, décor, or planners—and pay the actual invoice without any markup from me.

If you could invite any three people to host an event at JaceSpace, who would they be and why?

I mean... I already invite the people I want. But there are others I’d love to bring in—people I haven’t met yet, with any kind of talent: painting, sculpture, film, singing, or even playing some random instrument. Raw, unique talent that hasn’t had the chance to find a space to share it. I’d invite them to exhibit at my space. So if this sounds like you and you’re reading this, email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and I’ll invite 3 of you to showcase your work for a day or evening at JaceSpace. There are so many talented humans out there, and the world needs to experience more of them.

Themed Event at JaceSpace

What’s the most memorable or unique event that has taken place at JaceSpace, and what made it stand out?

The Mercedes Christmas party was one of my first +100-person events at the space, and I will remember it forever. They were so amazing to work with—great owners, great staff. I’m super grateful for that experience and excited for this year's. Also, a birthday party themed after the movie Babylon was incredible. They hired a set design company and went all out! I was lucky enough to be a guest, and it was the most fun party. The NZ Super Yacht Academy also transformed JaceSpace into a superyacht for 5 days. They bring so many creative components, and I love that. The ‘crew’ slept upstairs (pretty swanky crew accommodation) and even did night watches, etc.

Summer JaceSpace

How do you see the future of multidisciplinary spaces evolving, and what plans do you have for JaceSpace to stay innovative?

I believe ‘spaces’ will always be needed, and every space has its own “USP” or feature that someone is looking for. JaceSpace will just evolve as it happens naturally.

Are there any exciting plans in the pipeline for JaceSpace?

Actually, yes! There's a new JaceSpace just for the summer! It's a 30-second drive from the 0G JaceSpace, and it's a real looker. JaceSpace is also now showcasing and is the Australia / New Zealand Distributor for Peralta Vidavi Custom Lighting. Check them out on jacespace.co.nz. Plus, JaceStays is expanding and spreading those boutique hotel vibes across Auckland. There are now Stays at Little City, The OG, and 25 Gibraltar. Each one is unique, offering a different experience ... so your choice will depend on who you're sleeping with.
