People Behind the Space: Latch Shared Workspace
- Details
Meet Dave, owner of Latch Digital shared workspace
Take a tour around the beautiful Latch Shared Workspace, located on the top floor of the heritage Achilles House.
The large loft space on the fringe of Britomart has all the bells and whistles for creative and digital teams or individuals seeking a work station. With desks, meeting rooms and stunning breakout areas, the Latch workspace is community driven and aids networking.
We catch up with Dave to have a quick chat about his own coworking space and the other ventures he is also involved with.
What inspired you to set up your coworking space?
I first started my company out of a shared working space and really loved the experience. When we started renting out own space and had the room, it was a no-brainer to make a few extra dollars and get some great people and businesses in the office.
What is your favourite part of the space and why?
Hearing people's stories is always really interesting. I enjoy hearing about how people got into business and how far they've come.
Why do you think working from a coworking space helps people thrive?
Just by talking with other people in the space, it instantly gives people a better insight into industries they may have known nothing about. That exposure may not seem like much at first, but can pay dividends further down the track.
Please tell us a bit about what other ventures you are also involved with.
Latch is our main company with a few small shareholdings in other media agencies and internet start-ups.
Who has been the most interesting resident in your space?
Jess Walker of Idle.co.nz. She's been in our space for a little over 6 months, double the size of her business and is now selling it to a big European competitor. Epic story behind this!
Can you describe the community and types of businesses within your space?
Everyone gets along with some really good banter and always a few laughs. There are tourism start-ups, big international concert companies, media companies and a few AdMen.
If you could pick any three people in the world to work in your space, who would it be and why?
Kevin Hart, Lebron James and Gigi Hadid - they're all superstars!
What tips would you pass on to someone thinking about starting their own coworking space?
Get tables that hide cords and chairs that are comfortable!
What are the most played songs in your office playlist?
We have a pretty good office playlist everyone contributes too. My favourites at the moment are Rocket Man by Elton John and Hotel California by the Eagles.
